Democrats' Latest Power Grab

• Friday, the Senate Rules Committee will meet to mark-up S.1, the Senate version of H.R. 1 – otherwise known as the Democrat Politician Protection Act. 
• This bill is a Democrat power grab and would make our elections less secure.
• S. 1/H.R. 1 is not “for the people,” it’s “for the politicians” and is far outside the mainstream. 
• This bill would federalize elections and weaponize the Federal Election Commission.
• Democrats’ bill would implement unconstitutional federal standards mandating “national rules” they have long desired.
  • H.R. 1 would force states to allow ballot harvesting.
  • H.R. 1 would force states to adopt automatic voter registration on short notice, even though past attempts to implement automatic voter registration have led to illegal immigrants being registered and massive registration errors. 
  • Felons would be granted the right to vote in federal elections the moment they leave prison.
• H.R. 1 would eviscerate commonsense state voter ID laws.
  • 30 states would be forced to adopt automatic voter registration on short notice. 
  • At least 29 states would be forced to adopt same day voter registration.
• H.R. 1 would transform the Federal Election Commission (FEC) into a partisan 5-member organization under the control of the White House.
• The bill promises to expand flawed vote by mail systems Democrats pushed during the 2020 Presidential election.
• H.R. 1 would use taxpayer dollars to fund career politicians. 
  • Under the bill, the federal government would pay politicians’ campaigns up to a600 percent match for political donations under $200.
• H.R. 1 takes away state legislatures’ ability to draw congressional districts, forcing states to give unelected and unaccountable commissions this power.
  • Democrats failed to win state House and Senate seats, so now they are trying to change the rules from Washington and take state legislatures’ power away.   
  • The Constitution "expressly" gives the power to redistrict to the states - not to unelected bureaucrats.
• Election officials and advocacy groups have warned about the damage H.R. 1 would cause. 
  • 20 state Attorneys General have signed a letter denouncing the bill’s seizure of state and local authority.
  • 16 Secretaries of State called H.R. 1 a “dangerous overreach by the federal government into the administration of elections.” 
  • 9 former FEC Commissioners said the bill would transform the bipartisan regulator into a “body subject to, and indeed designed for, partisan control.”
  • More than 130 advocacy organization and non-profit leaders have said H.R. 1 would “dramatically alter the First Amendment protections that Americans have enjoyed since the founding of our country.”
