Sweet Union RW April 22 Meeting

Please join Sweet Union Republican Women on April 22nd at the Weddington Swim and Racquet Club. Our featured guests are Chief District Judge Erin Hucks, District Judges Anna Goodwin and Megean Simpson and Renny Omole Immigration Attorney. Social hour starts at 6:30 with the meeting starting at 7 pm.
Chief District Judge Erin Hucks
Judge Hucks earned her bachelor’s degree from NC State University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. Judge Hucks holds a certificate in international studies from the University of Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria.
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Hucks owned and operated a general practice law firm. During that time, she was named one of the top ten criminal law attorneys in North Carolina by the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys.
Judge Hucks was appointed to the District Court bench in December of 2019. She was elected to her seat in 2020 and reelected in 2024. In October of 2021, Judge Hucks was appointed as the Chief District Court Judge. On November 21, 2023 Judge Hucks received her certification for specialized judgeships in juvenile court matters and she is a member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Judge Hucks has been a member of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals since 2010. In March of 2024, Judge Hucks created a Family Treatment Court and in August of 2025, she will begin a Veterans Treatment for Union County. In October of 2024, Judge Hucks was named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in North Carolina by Lawyers Weekly and the Mecklenburg Times. In March of 2025, Judge Hucks was appointed to the Governor’s Crime Commission and the Crime Victims Services Committee.
District Judge Anna Goodwin
District Court Judge for Union County, North Carolina. Board Certified North Carolina State Criminal and Juvenile Delinquency Law Specialist. Former Assistant District Attorney and former owner of Goodwin Law Firm, specializing in criminal defense.
Judge Goodwin has her JD from the University of Richmond School of Law, a B.S. in biology from Duke University and attended the North Carolina School of Science and Math
District Judge Megean Simpson
Judge Megean Simpson was born and raised in Chatham County, North Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the Charlotte School of Law. Judge Simpson fell in love with Union County during her time as an intern in college and law school, with the Union County District Attorney’s Office; she officially moved to Union County in 2011.
After earning her law license, Judge Simpson began her legal career as an associate attorney with Austin Law Office in Indian Trail, North Carolina. During her three years at Austin Law Office, Judge Simpson primarily practiced family law and criminal defense. In 2016, Judge Simpson became an Assistant District Attorney in the Union County District Attorney’s Office under Trey Robison. As an Assistant District Attorney, Judge Simpson handled criminal cases ranging from traffic infractions to first-degree murder. While in the DA’s Office, Judge Simpson served as the Motor Vehicle Prosecutor, handling impaired driving offenses, felony traffic offenses, and vehicular homicides. Judge Simpson was the DWI Treatment Court prosecutor for Union County for several years; a program focused on helping individuals on the path to recovery achieve and maintain sobriety.
In 2018, she was named the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) District Court Prosecutor of the Year. Judge Simpson also served as the Special Victims Prosecutor under DA Trey Robison. As the Special Victims Prosecutor, Judge Simpson handled cases involving physical and/or sexual abuse of children. In that role, Judge Simpson worked closely with our local Children’s Advocacy Center, Tree House, and the Multidisciplinary Team comprised of medical professionals, Department of Social Services, members of law enforcement, and Guardian Ad Litem to advocate for children.
Judge Simpson was appointed to the District Court bench in September 2024 and was elected in the November 2024 election cycle. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and is currently serving as the Secretary for the Union County Bar. She is married to her husband, David Simpson, a Sergeant with the Monroe Police Department. Together, they have three boys, ages 6, 5, and 10 months.
Morenike (Renny) Omole
Morenike Omole is the Founder of Omole Law Office. She is licensed in North Carolina and Maryland She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia, and later earned her Juris Doctorate from American University Washington College of Law. Attorney Omole is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association and Maryland Bar Association. She is fully licensed to represent clients before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Federal Courts, and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Our caring for America project is with the Council of Aging Next Door Clubhouse. We will be collecting the following items until the end of April.
